Girls Varsity Volleyball · Volleyball: Old vs New

On Saturday August 6th at 2:00 in the SHS Gym some former volleyball players will be coming out of retirement and putting their kneepads and shoes back on. Coach Hale and the Lady Chargers will host a scrimmage matching up the 2016 Chargers against those of the past, some of which have not played since winning a state championship as a senior. Others have been playing in college. So will our former players still have what it takes to play with the young current players? One former player Taylor Edwards, which will be playing for the Alumni team Saturday said, “yeah we still got it, don’t worry about that.” Sounds like it could be a very competitive game as the OLD meets the NEW. This will be a booster club event and donations will be accepted. See everyone Saturday at 2:00 as we kick off the Volleyball season.

Update:

The Alumni won 3-2 over our 2016 Lady Chargers. Before the final game Coach Hale announced to a large crowd that “From the turnout and response we have gotten from the fans and Alumni we plan to do this again next year!” The Alumni didn’t look out of shape at all as they were able to take games 3 and 4 after splitting the first 2. The 2016 Chargers also were impressive considering they were going against several current college volleyball players. Lucy Acuff returned to game action for the first time since a season ending injury last year and was impressive with her all around game. Sophomore Zoe Merriweather had multiple kills and was dominate at the net. Kim Crider returned to play for the Alumni team just a few months after graduating. She was up to her old tricks as the libero for the Alumni squad. Coach Hale will look to Kya Davis to replace Crider on this years team which will be no easy task. Also look for Ragon Green, Lani Turner, and Libby Barham to play key roles in this years Chargers squad.

The Chargers open regular season play Tuesday (8/9) at home vs Lake Cormorant at 6:00.
