Boys Varsity Football · Chargers Impressive in Jamboree

The boys of fall opened up the season on Friday night with a jamboree against the Commodors of Lafayette. The JV played first with just one quarter and neither team reaching the end zone.

The varsity teams squared off for two quarters and limited contact on special teams. The offense looked good, scoring twice on the night, both touchdowns. The first score came on a five yard end around to wide receiver Brandin Echols.

A few possessions later, following an interception and big return from Damario Boyland, the offense came through again. This time, quarterback Marseiluis Vaughn punched it in from one yard out giving the Chargers the 14-0 victory.

The leading rusher on the night for Southaven was Gabriel Wilson with 55 yards on just three carries. The defense was led by Jaylon Posey, TJ Campbell, and Brian Johnson. Johson and Posey each had six tackles and Campbell added five. Johnson also added an interception and Posey a sack.

Next week the Chargers open the regular season at home against the Chargers of Oxford High School at 7 pm.
